Juncker tells Johnson to 'spell out' Brexit backstop plan, as Barnier warns time for fake negotiations is over

Jean-Claude Juncker told Boris Johnson to “spell out” exactly how he hopes to replace the Irish backstop, before today repeating his demand for written British proposals  to prevent a hard border after Brexit.

Michel Barnier, the EU’s chief negotiator, heaped more pressure on the prime minister by insisting the time for pretend negotiations was over and that the obligation to solve the border issue would survive a no deal Brexit.

 Britain has so far refused to submit written plans, amid fears they would be leaked, but that has lead to accusation the UK is not negotiating seriously or sincerely.
